It is so precious when the next generation has a same or similar bond to the grandparents.
This week we are visiting my parents here in Texas, while Rich works nearby in San Antonio.
Upon our arrival, Nora went to hug my dad around the legs. You know one of those screeching 'Poppy!' running into there arms Halmark type of moments. (Does mommys' heart good)
Nora DID notice a 'crunchy' sound from my dads pocket.....
'Poppy! What make that noise? What in there?'
My dad just smiled down at her and pulled out individually wrapped Lifesaver candies. Dad has always carried a few hard candies in his pocket.
'CANDY! I have some?'
Of course dad gave her a piece, but it's now turned into a game. Nora patting my dad's pocket and asking 'what make that sound?'...him saying 'I don't know' and Nora screaming 'It's candy!'....
Rewind 58 yrs when my dad was Nora's age. He tells us he used to get his grandmother's purse and bring it too her, look up and say 'Have a gum gum?' Mamoo, as she was named by the grandchildren, was an ardent gum chewer and dad too knew where to find the sweet stuff.
I think the memories are sweeter though. That my dad gets to have that moment with Nora is just precious to me.
